Text Box: Thanks to the wonderful response of readers to Hey Ranger! I’ve assembled in this sequel an additional collection of humorous and unusual outdoor stories from across the country and around the world. While many of these true tales are from U. S. national parks, Hey Ranger 2 also includes hilarious miscues from other locations as far away as Australia. You’ll find contenders for the strangest questions ever asked of park rangers, life lessons you can learn from a canoe trip, examples of how not to launch a boat or pick a campsite, and some classic encounters with bears and other denizens of the wild. Hey Ranger 2 also includes tales of campers being pelted by unusual objects falling from the sky; some memorable fishing stories involving the one that didn’t get away; and dumb crooks in parks, one of whom offered perhaps the lamest alibi ever uttered by a culprit caught in the act.

I’ve continued to focus on the light rather than the tragic side of outdoor miscues, so although there are a few close calls, nobody dies in this book either. That means you don’t have to begin with a furtive peek at the last few pages to see if your favorite character survives.

Speaking of characters, there are plenty of new ones in this book. Once again, I’ve disguised the names in many cases to protect the innocent—or the guilty. I think you’ll enjoy meeting “Hunk” the fisherman and “Flash” the erstwhile cook, along with many others.
