Text Box: Jim Burnett’s career as a National Park Service Ranger began at Grand Canyon National Park and culminated thirty years later as Chief Ranger at Colonial National Historical Park in Virginia. Along the way, he had the opportunity to live and work at some of the most unique places in America, including Glacier National Park (Montana), Lake Mead National Recreation Area (Arizona & Nevada), Buffalo National River (Arkansas), National Capital Parks (Washington, D.C. area), Big Thicket National Preserve (Texas) and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial (Indiana.)

Text Box: Those experiences provided a wealth of material as Jim embarked on a long-anticipated writing career following his retirement from the National Park Service in 2001. In addition to his two Hey Ranger books, he has published short items in several national periodicals. He is an active member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the Outdoor Writers Association of America and the Texas Outdoors Writers Association. Born and raised in Texas, Jim has been happily married to his best friend Velma for 40 years. They have two grown children and live in northeast Texas.
